Christmas in Rural Zimbabwe

Description

My contribution to the collaboration Santa's Passport which is a collection of cakes and cookies made by various bakers to represent Christmas across the globe.  Mine centered around the Church, Music, Dancing and Craft.  I live in UK now but I was born in Kenya and I grew up in Zimbabwe and spent some time living on a farm.  The sounds of the beating drums and singing at night will stay in my blood forever.  Two boozy Christmas cakes for the family.  The Flame Lily on top of the Church is the national flower of Zimbabwe and the wall painting (with the hands, not brushes) is very popular on the huts and other places.  The decorated Baobab is a bit of artistic licence on my part!  Thank you for looking.Santa's Passport

Absolutely gorgeous work on this! I love the painted people on the side, caught mid-dance. The tree and the drum really help bring that feeling of movement into the front of the cake, which makes the stationary feeling of the top of the cake more captivating by contrast. It must have taken quite a while to mold these particular figurines - there are so many nuances with them. But you did a brilliant job! I especially like the man and all of the details on him - the hair, the eyebrows, he beard - you even included the chain connecting the front of his cloak!

But I think the detail work on the house is what stands out the most. Perhaps it's because you specifically mentioned the hand painting in your description, as that's the custom there. Whatever the reason, those bits on the wall of the house really stand out! The roof also catches the eye, with the flower there almost looking as though it's a protector and doesn't intend to let anyone near the inhabitants on the house.

Overall, really magnificent work - thanks so much for sharing!
